Outdoor Elements is located in Houston, Texas and serves the city and its surrounding areas.  With a growing staff and a large fleet of equipment, we are ready to handle jobs of any size and scope.  Owner Derek Steele has been in the landscape architecture business for over 15 years and has an outstanding reputation among his peers and with his customers.   You can feel confident knowing Outdoor Elements is your partner.


Derek Steele
  president and founder

Derek Steele is an entrepreneur with over twenty years experience in building successful organizations; fifteen of which are in commercial and residential landscaping and construction.

In addition to his love for landscape architecture, building custom pools and creating amazing outdoor spaces, Derek has a passion for serving others. His mission is exemplified by his support for local charities focused on helping homeless children and those who struggle with substance abuse. Derek is also a teen and family volunteer and the former board president of Teen and Family Services in Houston.  Additionally, Derek is an author and speaker who has been featured on numerous television and radio programs.  Derek is married to Jackie and is the proud father to son, Jackson, and daughter, Olivia.


Roger Camp

Co-founder, Roger Camp is a seasoned business leader who is also the majority principal of Camp Construction Services.  Roger’s impeccable reputation in the industry and more than 25 years’ experience bring integrity and construction knowledge to the Outdoor Elements’ team.  Roger is active in the Houston Apartment Association, serving on the Board of Directors and the Political Action Steering Committee.  He is also past president of the HAA’s Product Service Council and was voted Supplier of the Year and Go Getter of the Year.

Roger graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University and also holds a Master of Science degree from St. Thomas University, Florida.  He is married to Jennifer and is the proud father of three daughters, Ginger, Chanler and Spenser.




Jim Cook
 director of marketing and business development

Jim oversees marketing and business development efforts in the Texas market. Prior to joining Outdoor Elements in February 2015, Jim spent the last few decades as a contractor, developing and building with expertise in tract and custom homes, multi-family apartment residences, condo conversions, high-rise buildings and historic urban renovation construction. Jim holds a Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus in finance and is currently enrolled in an MBA program with an emphasis in sustainability. Jim is an avid multi-engine aircraft pilot and enjoys spending time with his family.


Lauren Hasselmeier
 accounting department manager & office manager

Lauren started at Outdoor Elements as a part-time employee and quickly worked her way to her current position as the office manager and accounting department manager. Lauren has the important task of keeping Outdoor Elements’ finances in order and the office running smoothly. She is responsible for everything from payroll and accounts payable to human resources and insurance. Passionate about making sure her department is well-run, organized and accurate, Lauren also loves the considerate, compassionate family environment that pervades at Outdoor Elements. When Lauren isn’t crunching numbers, she is busy keeping track of her four boys; Brayden, Joshua, Christian and Justin.


Sydney McRae
 construction manager

Sydney manages the construction portfolio and focuses on creating quality, longevity, and a great experience for each client by making sure they receive an amazing outdoor experience. Sydney started her career at Outdoor Elements in accounting, then moved to estimating construction jobs before taking over management of the department.   She is passionate about empowering her construction team to create exceptional work in a timely manner while allowing the customer to feel great pride and joy in the outcome.  When Sydney is not making sure projects are completed on time and under budget, she enjoys photography, cooking and participating in youth outreach.

JP Morgan
 operations manager

After working for years managing some of Houston’s most extravagant private parties, JP decided to take his experience in customer service to a new industry. In 2015 he became the maintenance department operations manager at Outdoor Elements. JP oversees scheduling, purchasing, and staffing while also managing a handful of customer accounts.  JP’s favorite aspect of his job is helping clients solve problems; from figuring out how to get the most bang for their budget to helping new customers who call out of distress find a solution for their issue. When he earns a customer’s trust and makes his or her life easier, JP feels that he has truly done his job well.  When he’s not solving landscape catastrophes, JP loves to spend time outdoors on his family farm or hunting. His nirvana is riding the tractor, working on projects and forgetting about everything except the animals and the great outdoors.
